Chris Holt and Alan Borgars - Elections Co-ordinator

1. What impact do you think the Green Party’s eco-socialist policies have had on the party’s growth and how can that be sustained?

The Green Party's eco-socialist policies have helped allow it to reach out more to inner city communities, ensure nationalisation can be on the political agenda, and have helped it grow in metropolitan areas and university towns in particular. This growth can be sustained by ensuring the Green Party does more to appeal to working-class voters

2. The recent Tory by-election defeats suggest the electorate are making their own decisions on strategic voting. How can the Green Party intervene to turn that to its advantage?

Within by-elections where tactical voting is strong, the Green Party should make a principled stand to ensure people vote for us because of our policies and our individual message, and because we are a true alternative to the three largest UK parties.

3. What would be your priorities for campaigns outside election periods that would raise our profile in communities, engage our members and attract new ones? How could that be financed?

Our campaign priorities should focus on environmental campaigns, especially those affecting rural and coastal areas (e.g. in Suffolk), and campaigns surrounding the cost of living crisis (e.g. food shortages).

4. How can the Party improve the way it communicates its policies to the BAME and white working class?

The Green Party needs to change its perceived image so it can deliver a more universal, classless green message

5. Should the Green Party review its policy on NATO in the light of the current conflict in Ukraine and what would be your approach?

Yes, the Green Party should review its policy on NATO in light of the current conflict in Ukraine; our approach would be to call for significant reforms to NATO so that it is primarily an international defensive organisation which does not initiate aggression or aid i

6. The 24 hours news cycle means that contributions from our spokespeople have to be rapid if they are to be given media space. How can we manage that whilst maintaining democratic accountability?

We need to ensure we appoint talented and fast-thinking spokespeople who have excellent recall skills in their area of expertise and can quote Green Party policy quickly when interviewed.

7. Given that some Government policies such as privatisation and reducing rights are a thread crossing different sectors how can spokespeople cooperate on our overall messaging to ensure this is addressed?

Our spokespeople need to ensure internal communication channels are clear and quick to ensure efficient collaboration on policy and can deliver joint statements when necessary

8. How would you raise the international relevance and profile of the GPEW?

If elected as Elections Coordinator, we would refine and retune our Target to Win strategy so that the Green Party elects more MPs and becomes a more significant force in British politics. This, first and foremost, is how political parties raise international profiles and GPEW is no exception

9. The Green Party has recently encountered difficulties in maintaining a respectful and comradely debate on issues where there has been sharp disagreement. What would be your approach to improving the atmosphere in which these debates take place?

We would ask the party to unite around issues fundamental to the Green Party's Philosophical Basis and aims, such as environmental issues, resolving the cost of living crisis, and tackling rising wealth inequality and decreasing social mobility.

10. How can we ensure a level playing field in internal elections when some candidates have the advantage of access to a national platform and networks?

We believe that expenses limits should be strictly enforced within GPEW election regulations and that any coverage of internal election candidates must be fair and impartial.
